xconf now not working with new 2.6.34 kernel?!

so, I compiled a new 2.6.34 zen kernel for my nfluxos arch/slack versions
and after booting up off usb I discovered /usr/bin/xconf; which Slax uses
to configure X, is not working?!

when trying to run "xconf" it bombs out saying
it can't, for some reason, run...

Code:
echo "Trying to autoconfigure Xwindow system, please wait..."
   /usr/bin/X -configure 2>/dev/null

   if [ ! $? = 0 ]; then
echo "cannot run auto config. Try xorgsetup (menu) or xorgconfig (plaintext) commands."
      exit 1
   fi
if I try to run "X -configure"
it also bombs out saying segfault...

so, anyone have any ideas why going to newer kernel would cause this?
thanks

Remove xf86-video-vmware since that's the driver it's crashing on.
