X11 Default Font


Just what is that delightful standard font in X11? It's the one you get if you specify an invalid font, or a font that doesn't exist.

It looks remarkably similar to Monaco at small sizes.

I like to use it in window manager themes, but I'd rather specify it by its real name rather than just specifying a font that doesn't exist (resulting in errors!).

if you have time, you can try to look for it thanks to xlsfont utility

$ xlsfont: command not found.

I've tried using xfontsel, but was slightly disheartened at the idea of looking through close to 10000 matches!
