X won't start after reboot
After a reboot from a power failure, X won't start.
After typing the 'startx' command the X server appears to start, but then it goes back to console mode and it says that it can't find the file: .Xclients-default What went wrong? (RH 7.2) Thanks, kodiakmook |
have you tried to reconfigure X with Xconfigurator ?? probably get you back up and running.

I reconfigured with Xconfigurator, and it works fine when it tests the settings, but once Xconfgurator exits and I type 'startx', the Xserver tries to start, but quits with the message:
------------ /root/.Xclients: /root/.Xclients-default: No such file or directory /root/.Xclients: exec: /root/.Xclients-default: cannot execute: No such file or directory waiting for X server to shut down ---------------- I assume I just need to tell it to use KDE, but what is the syntax to create an .Xclients-default file? |
don't know what the heck originally happened to the file, but recreating the .Xclients-default file worked. I just added the line
exec startkde and the X server starts normally now. |
