X with no desktop when VNC Server started from user account

Fedora Core 1.

When I start VNC Server from my user account and VNC into it I get the iconless Vanilla X desktop with no Gnome or KDE, icons, apps, etc. But when I start VNC server via root I can VNC into my Fedora/Gnome Desktop just fine with Icons, apps, etc.

I checked out xstartup in /HOME$/.vnc for both root and 'username' and they are identical. Any suggestions?

You might try switchdesk to set whatever desktop you want to use under the user account. The blank desktop might be a default.

If you normally login through the graphic login, there is a setting there to choose which desktop you want, and it remembers your last choice. You don't go through that using VNC, so it doesn't know your choice.
