X windows


i need to install graphics drivers however to do this I need to be completly outof x windows. I am useing suse8.2.
how do i exit X windows completly so i can install

note i really dont want to change any boot files as i know little about Linux. Also could i force the driver to install even if in X?
the driver i am installing is the nvidia driver

In a terminal, do
su -
telinit 3

oh yea tell me something bogus. the su commadn will do nothing as it is to use a user but still be logged on as whoever u are.
telinit 3?? WTF are u talking about. I know that what u have said makes no sence at all.

someone who KNOWs what they are talking about please tell me.

once agian i need to shut off X, nothing more and nothing less. how do i do this without changing any boot files. (X is started automaticaly after boot in suse 8.2)

Firstly, you shouldn't be cross-posting.
You started three threads with more or
less the same content within one hour.

Secondly, you shouldn't be talking about
things you have obviously NO knowledge
of. su - would make you root, which you
need to be to utilise (tel)init 3... Telinit 3
is not a bogus command, it brings your
system into run-level three, which means
multi-user, networking enabled, no X

Thirdly, you shouldn't try to insult people
who are trying to help you...
