X-Window problem

System:

CentOs 5.2

I installed the CentOS on a PC and system worked fine. Then yesterday, something went wrong with the MB. I switched the HDD from one PC to another PC.

Now when I boot the system and log in as root, and then enter the command ‘startx’, I get an error. I understand that this is being cause because the built-in AGP Video card on the second PC is different than the first-original PC.

So here is my question;

1. Why LINUX is not picking up the different (second PC) Video card,
2. Howto fix this problem?

Is there a command in LINUX similar to ‘boot in safe mode’ as in Windows?

Thanks in advance.

Kirt

when it fails, log in as root and type Xorg --configure then try startx....follow directions, it'll tell you what it does and what file you need to cp to xorg.conf

A Linux installer will usually detect the new video card and setup xorg.conf accordingly. But I don't think that an installed system will automatically re-configure for new hardware.

no prob..Xorg --configure should always be available...not just during the install
