X Startup Scripts

I am running slackware 8.0, and I would like to get a couple of things to start up when X windows does, but I'm not sure exactly which files to put the commands into. There are three things I'd like to do.

1. automatically use xinerama extensions. Right now I have to type startx -- +xinerama, but i want to just type startx. I tried the files in the xinerama howto, but those don't seem to be the ones that slackware uses.

2. I'd like to start imwheel. Also, can somebody tell me how to get into the configuration utility that they show on the imwheel homepage? I can't seem to get imwheel to work.

3. I'd also like to get the X screensaver daemon to start. Gnome starts it for me if it's not already running, but I would like it to be running if X windows is.

Well, thanks in advance for the help.

1. the startx command is only a shell script, so you can add what ever you want to it. Load /usr/X11R6/bin/startx into your favourite editor and have a go at changing it. You may just be able to edit the last line.

2. pass

3. Have a look at /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xinit/xinitrc - I think you should be able to add a line to start the daemon before the call to the Window manager (the last line)... Haven't got a clue what the daemon is called mind you.

HTH

Jamie...
