X session display won't work for non-root users

Hi all,

I installed RedHatESU4, running in vmware-server, and am having problems increasing the display resolution for non-root users. When I login as root I am able to increase my display resolution to "1024 x 768", but if I login as a non-root user, change my display, logout and log back in, the display a messy blue and white snow hash. The size of the display still looks "800 x 600". Its almost as if it's trying to fit a "1024 x768" inside a 8x6 window.

Thanks in advance!

Why don't you change it system-wide in xorg.conf?

I did make the changes in xorg.conf, to no avail. When root logs into the WM system the display looks fine, not true when a non-root user does.

did you check out /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
