X/mouse hacks cause Gnome to fail on startup

So just because I wanted to get my mouse's thumb button working in Firefox as a back button, I followed some bad directions in another thread as generally shown here:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...04/02/3/147616

The problem is now I can't start Gnome, but why would this affect my normal Gnome sessions logon via gdm? Here's my ~/.xsession-errors

/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: Registering your session with wtmp and utmp
/etc/X11/gdm/PreSession/Default: running: /usr/bin/X11/sessreg -a -w /var/log/wtmp -u /var/run/utmp -x "/var/lib/gdm/:0.Xservers" -h "" -l ":0" "netsniper"
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup...
/home/netsniper/.bashrc: line 8: dircolors: command not found
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Cannot find Xclients
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: ssh-agent not found!
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Setup done, will execute: xsm
/etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: line 221: exec: xsm: not found

Can anyone figure out this problem? Thanks in advance...
