X gives error for no reason

when I booted my computer this morning, X gave me an error (full log in the next post):

Code:
Could not init font path element unix/:-1, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
I'm a newbie so this is a bit scary. yesterday X was working fine, I didn't do any configuration, there is no new hardware installed, and the system went down properly. like this error has appeared out of nowhere!

it seems that X can't find the fonts. any help, please?

I've seen things similiar to this when your running out of disk space, etc. Can you provide any more details to your setup, hardware used, your XF86Config file, etc?

you are right. df gave 100% used on /, and the system boots after I removed various log files from /var/log/.

btw, is there a command to calculate the size of a directory or a group of subdirectories?
