www monthly transfer limit

How do web hosting companies put a limit on the monthly transfer size/bandwidth used by the domains on their servers? For example a web hosting company may say "3000MB Monthly Transfer Limit".

Does anyone know of any tutorials that could walk me through setting something like that up? Thanks!

There are various utilities that will monitor usage of system resources. I don't know if this is built into squid, for example, but I'm sure that www proxy software or ids software would be useful for this sort of thing.

Try Google. Look for something like "network+monitor+usage+linux".
