wubi tutorials?
 

Hi, I was wondering if any of you guys that use the wubi chinese input method know of any online tutorials or lessons to learn wubi. currently I'm using pinyin to type chinese but I am interested in learning wubi.

I beleive the standard reply is "RTFW" or "have you googled this question?

I just googled: "Wubi tutorial" and this is at the top of the pile:

no doubt there are similar tutorials for other languages.

Hey, I did look on google, and did find that page. but if you look carefully, it explains wubi, but doesn't have a "tutorial" or "lessons"

It explains the different sections but no practice.

without a practice its very difficult to use.

Have you seen typing tutorials before? or typing programs? they have practices where your fingers in the proper positions, then it takes you to learn where the other keys are. slowly building up your word usage.

What I'm looking for is similar. Not a page that just says memorize the sections and that's it. but one that starts you off from a few keys to build up your usage. as you can guess, some chinese words are very diffcult to "write" and I don't want to do a "hit and miss" method to "find" all the common words.

This page has other links to other lessons and educational resources. However, I guess you want to be more comprehensive than this... so I had a more in-depth look for you. To see what I found, have a look at the next post.

Even with just the link I gave you, an experienced learner has enough information to construct appropriate excersizes... for eg. by attempting to copy a section of chinese text using the basic five strokes + character-select method. You would start with simple phrases and move to more complex constructions perhaps? (Though I note that a familiarity with fomal written chinese is a big advantage using WuBi - so you'll have internalised the stroke order or the characters...)

Beyond this, I'm afraid you'll have to enroll in a actual course at a school or something or hire face-to-face tutoring.

Xiaokun Zho <xiaokun@statistics.glasgow.ac.uk> announces (aug 30 last year) the creation of "CC Teacher" which is claimed to teach chinese language input methods (including WuBi) to beginners.

I have not checked out how good it is. But the newsgroup and users of CCTeacher should be a good set of folk to be asking about WuBi tutorials and lessons.

I've been trying to use the wubizixing page that you first suggested for a few days already, but its very difficult to find normal chars. some simple ones work as explained in their text, but other simple words don't work the same.

I can't seem to access the other site you mentioned, but i'll see if i can find a class or something.
