WTF!?!, linux just bombed big time
i dont even think that i have had such a big problem with windows.
so here i am in slackware 8.1, testing the glib packages from slack-current. i upgrade the packs, but maya stops working(complains about one of it's native libs, which was working a minute ago). fine, i switch back to the previous version of glib and glibc, but the problem persists, so i just go and change to the newer versions, and leave maya for later. however during upgrading, it spits out an error that the ****ing /bin/rm (and mv and so forth)is missing/cannot be executed(dont remember which one)(they were executable and i was root). fine, i start mc, but it doesnt start, it complains that something else is missing. i type df and it complains that it's missing. i reboot and what do i get, a complain that /sbin/agetty is missing(cannot be executed). so now im thinking WTF. i bring the slack cd, and boot from it(start the setup program). it mounts the hd, so i jump on another console and lo and behold, the bloody files are there. so im asking WTF? plz, help me people! |
Hmmm ... bad idea, that .... *never* mess with glibc
if not upgrading everything. And as for your comparison to winDOHs ... Grab Win2K and replace the system DLL's with XP ones :P and tell me how it works. Cheers, Tink |
yeah i know, and i usually compile everything too, (shit even did gnome 2), dont know why i went to try the packs.
so is there any way to fix it, or do i just do a over-install? |
I'm afraid you'll have to throw the old packages
over the new glibc stuff ... good luck, too! Cheers, Tink |
