wpa_supplicant reconnect time

I'm using wpa_supplicant to establish my wireless connection. When I suspend and resume, it takes a good 5 to 10 seconds for my wireless connection to re-establish. For example Firefox will fail to connect to a website and offer to "try again"; 3 or 4 tries later and it's working again.

Using Wicd gives the same results (I assume that it's simply using wpa_supplicant too).

Does anyone have any tips on a fast/instant re-connect from suspend?

Thanks
