Why is this a poll?
This is not the best place to announce such a local event. Steve |

workshop, the material covered will be availabled online. Examples, scripts, photos, and any other specific questions about learning how to go about a Linux / Unix enviroment. The actual current workshop planned is in Los Angeles, California at CSU Los Angeles on October 30, 2003. The examples or materials covered will be available online which is still being written up. I placed the poll there because I am sure there are people who are begining to write 'scripts' or learning Linux / Unix commands and thought this thread might be useful. |
Create Script to seperate M,T,W,R,F,S classes
How can we seperate MW, TR, F, Sat classes using any script language?

i think i probably speak for most people in saying i do not have a clue what this is meant to be about? are you expceting a solution to this "problem" ??? I don't think this is really relevant to linuxquestions.org...
|
I'd perceive it as advertisement :}
Cheers, Tink |

Though he is asking people's opinions on this site if this would be helpful to others, I still find it deemed unecessary for our forums and I am having this closed at this time. If you feel otherwise regarding my decision, email me privately to discuss this thread/topic, etc. Regards. |

what scripting language would you use?
I use bash because that is what I learned to write simple scripts. What would you folks use to answer this question?
P.S. This is not advertisement. Yet, the other website that links linuxquestions.org 'allows' linuxquestions.org to be listed. I have a question, where are your 'by-laws, rules, and such that describes' linuxquestions.org? Is this a group? non-profit entity? Who are the board members? The supporters? If asking this questions boots me off this site completely, then I was misinformted of what I can or cannnot do. Problem: Can you use a script to count the number of words in the P.S.? |
scripting is a basic part of linux
Quote:
Let me try to find a script I wrote a while back to see if you can understand that the script is doing. Code:
#!/usr/local/bin/bash NOTE: Same variables might not work because the scripting environment is different for each type of system. SunOS, Linux, and what not |

Article II - Name The chapter is organized and will be operated exclusively for educational and scientific purposes and, in furtherance thereof, specific purposes of this organization shall be: To promote an increased knowledge of the science, design, development, construction, language, and applications of modern computing machinery; To promote a greater interest in computing machinery and its applications. To provide a means of communication between persons having interest in computing machinery. To provide a collective effort among the computer machinery students in marketing their skills to the vast and high-paying computing job industry. The above text is from trickykid comments and my organization I represent. My question is, using a script, how many non-alpha letters are there? Again, using a script, how many letters are there? Remember, you need to combine both trickykid's comments and my organization descript to count letters and non-letters. |

I don't know which board linked to LQ, but our Rules are perfectly clear - read them here - which you should have done when you signed up to the board. There is a link at the bottom of the page. LQ is a non-profit entity, the owner is Jeremy - it is his money and energy that got this board going. The members and supporters are the users - all of whom have agreed to abide by the Rules. The boards, however, are not the place for this discussion - if you need clarification or need to discuss this further, please email a Moderator or Jeremy. |
thanks again for clarification

Now, back at the topic at hand about scripts. When I learned scripts, the person that thought me made me process lots of text files. Mainly the environments in SunOS or Linux. I was wondering if the moderators can give me a 'text dump' of this thread? All the responses and stuff. Just to get people started scripting, I need to go back and remember my scripting stuff. I learned bash scripting, but there are others like korn, sh, c-shell, and others. Just working off of memory. So, once I get some time off, I will work on the questions I posted. Just waiting to see if any can answer them. I had a friend answer one, but he used python. I need to ask him if I can post on here. mmm |
