Working with rpm files

I need to download and install an rpm package onto my computer. What I would like to do first is replace some of the files in the rpm package with some of my own, and then run the rpm command to install it. Is there a program I can use to open the rpm file up, and replace some of the files in it before actually installing the package? I guess the equivalent in windows would be winzip.
