Word Perfect 8 on KDE

Anyone installed WP8 on a KDE desktop? I followed the instructions on the CD. Did it work? Did it bollocks? Do I have the faintest idea what to do? Do I bollocks! <g>

If anyone's done this and got it working, would they mind letting me know and letting me pick their brains?

Ta. :-)

I'm not sure really. I have looked at different instructions on the web, and tried a few different things.

On linuxtoday.com there's am article that describes it in detail. I've got the gz files, gunzipped them, then untarred the gui00 file. This creates a subdirectory or two. I then run the ./Runme file.

It tells me something like the graphical environment's failed and it's trying to use the character based verison.

Then it attempts to do a stack of chmods to a load of files it can't find. Gets to then and says what's your installation directory. I type in the directory I'm in and it says invalid area or something like that.

Oh for an RPM...

Yes, it was free. This version always was, but you had to register it I think.

excellent instructions on how to install it at:

http://www.linuxtoday.com/news_story...1-012-10-NW-SW

Download was painfully slow for some reason. You might want to read the instructions first....

I don't know if this is any help but when I installed RH 7.2 I lost the "connection" with Wordperfect Office 2000 and had to add a Corel RPM (libaps -1.0-1568.0.i386.rpm) which attached the graphics to allow you to open the suite. You can get this from Corel and it is slow downloading!! ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/linux/Graphi...68.0.i386.rpm. Maybe that will be of some help.

Yeah, it's all very strange. I have been given a CD that reckons it's WP8 for Linux (free version) but that's even more indeciferable!

I've sent an e-mail to Corel asking them about WP for Linux, so we'll see what they have to say for themselves. If you do a search on Google for WP for Linux, the Google synopsis says it's somewehre at corel.com, but then you get redirected to some other company and there's no mention of it.

Shame, 'cos WP's an excellent word processor - all those poor, sad people stuck with Micro$oft Word! <g>

I had some real problems getting any support from the corel site but went to the author of the rpm and he's the one who gave me the site I showed above. He was real brief and just sent me the link -- I also got redirected when I would do a search on their site until I used the link -- the really strange thing was WP worked on RH 7.1 you also have to activate fontastic. I also have a tar. file he sent me -- tar xvfz wpins153.tgz which he sent me to install under 7.1 (and 7.2) Try contacting Andrew -- Linux_Tech66@corel.com He is very brief in his responses but seems to know his stuff -- you just have to pry it out of him! I don't know if any of this stuff will help you but I guess it can't hurt

The problem seems to be in one of the scripts, it puts folders in / and tries to copy files to them somewhere else so they never get copied.

I am trying this
ftp://ftp.corel.com/pub/linux/Graphi...568.0.i386.rpm

This is starting to drive me crazy.

I got wp 7 from the ftp site, it does the exact same thing.

One problem thats obvious is maybe to output of uname is used in the script

I get Linux

the folder name is linux.

that's not the only problem though

The interger 9 - 13 thing we are getting is the result of the menu not coming up I guess.
