won't boot or reboot without reset

I'm running SuSE 2.4.19 on an old 300 mz Pentium II DEC pc and everything works fine when it boots. Trouble is when I turn it on or reboot it hangs and I have to hit the reset button to get it to boot.

Any Ideas?

I had that problem 2 or 3 years ago. It turned out to be a hard drive that was slowly dying. It often would not initialize properly when the BIOS issued a hardware reset at boot. The problem went away when I bought a new drive.

Well apm wasn't installed so I installed it. It now boots without having to hit reset after getting a blank screen, but it still won't reboot...........
