Unhappy wine

i have installed wine which comes along with SuSE 7.3, i can run the windows cdplayer, calc, solitaire, but i canot get it to run office or any other application, such as winzip. i know that the above can run by wine i have seen screenshots, but why i cant run them on mine? the configuration of wine finds correctly my windows partition, and has all the dlls.

you might get better luck with codeweavers wine, it has a reasonable configuration front end to get things going better.

to get each app working proprly you'll really need to read the documentation and experiemnt with things such as the builtin or native dll's, there's no easy way around it really... i personally dislike wine, it's not nearly ready to be used reliably.

I got office to work by copying a working install from a windows system

It really will not run correctly though, the visual basic does not seem to work.

I think that staroffice is the way to go if you need to use ms office files.

Don't forget that wine is alpha software and your mileage will vary when using it. I have a look at the latest CVS about once a month and have got it to the stage where I can install some of my old windows games but none of them will run.....yet. Its a lot of work to get it that far and as I don't even have a win partition its even harder.
