Windows with Gnome interface?
Hello everyone!
I recently heard of a computer manufacturer who was editing Windows 8 and putting a gnome desktop environment on. Thus, the OS was still Windows, appearing to be Linux. This was being done to get people used to running Linux. However, I have been unable to find this online; does anyone know anything about it? Thanks in advance! |

If you like unity and want to make windows like unity, you should try this.

Thanks guys! They weren't exactly what I meant though. I don't think that this is a theme that is being used. I think that it is an actual Windows OS that was changed by the manufacture to appear like linux.....could be wrong though.

What are you talking about?
A WLC (Windows to Linux Converter) I want to know about this too. |

If above post is your solution then you can take a look at this too.

Hi guys. I'm sorry that it took me so long to respond, I was sick for a couple of days and then had to do catch up work. Once again this wasn't quite was I was talking about. I have heard about skin packs etc. and have on one installed. I merely heard someone mention something like this that was happening.....a company doing a gnome on windows interface, that is.
@bloodstreetboy: where can I find info on a WLC? I've never heard of one before, and I did a ddg search and didn't turn anything up. Perhaps this is what I'm looking for? |
Sorry, that was a gag. There is nothing like this right now. :(
You should use kde or gnome on your windows. Above links give you hint about this. or you should ask the vendor that how did he do if you are in contact with him. |

It would probably have just been some skin anyway, theres been a few of them over the years, like this one- http://www.addictivetips.com/windows...-7-into-linux/ I wouldnt be d/ling or installing that myself BTW. ;) |
I do not really understand what do you want to replace? skin, gui, kernel, or ??
You can have gnome like gui (or skin), you can install cygwin + X + gnome, or what? In general X and Windows are really different, you cannot have fully functional gnome on windows. |
Well, as cascade9 said, it would appear to be misinformation or media spin. Oh well, the rumor was worth following up at least.
I have tried the various skins for windows and have found them to be awful. Many of the screenshots look good, but I have found that they tend to be taken from a real linux system, not a windows system with the skin installed. Thanks guys! |
