Hello - I have WinXP Pro and Mandrake 10.0 configured to dual-boot using lilo. Mandrake boots fine but when I select windows it goes to a black screen and does not boot. The microsoft website tells me this is because the MBR is corrupted; I put in the WinXP install disk and went to the recovery console, where there is an option "fixmbr" - it then gives a very intimidating warning that I could lose partition tables, etc.

How can I rewrite the MBR without losing my Windows or Linux data? Or, how can I get access to Linux back after using fixmbr?

I have a dual boot with Madrake 9.2 I had some issues in the beginning too. Backup your Linux system first. Good luck.
