Window Maker

I have looked through the board and I see all sort of comment on different GUI (window maker, KDE, gnome, etc) .

I just want to know if window maker is the lightest one available or if there exist an other one (stability is important and graphic are not since it is for a server machine (I will most likely run it on 16 color, by the way it is for an old machine) )

Thanks in advance.

I flip flop using windowmaker and fluxbox (which is similar to blackbox) and they are much faster on my machine than kde or gnome.

The best site I could find for actual size is this:

Window Managers

but some of those I've never tried (or heard of for that matter).

Blackbox looks like the smallest one I've used at 230K. Fluxbox would probably be a similar size

Windowmaker clocks in at 1.8M

If you want to look at fluxbox take a look at this site

If you're not too concerned with all of the eye candy and fancy stuff, check out blackbox:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/blackboxwm

It has a small footprint and is very fast.

well, if you are after the smallest i *think* it's twm, and it's crap. you've probably already got it installed on your box.

Thanks for all the replies!!

By the way, by light I did nit mean small size, I meant it could run on a slow system.

Again, thanks all!
