Im in root, and gedit wont work... suggestions? Update, im not using gnome, and didnt install it. What is the kde version of gedit? Google isnt really helping

run gedit from a terminal, it's a great way to get error messages to diagnose the problem.
When using KDE i have found kate quite nice, and kwrite (if you have koffice installed).
Personally i use joe (command line) for all my text editing needs
*edit* maybe it cant find the command? you dont need ALL of gnome to run it's apps like you do KDE, you can use yum to install gedit (and it's dependant libs)
yea, i got it using kate. its all good. i was able to do quite a bit of installing last night. also, i upgraded my kernel to the newest rev. Now, though, when grub boots, it shows two different kernels and my other partition (windows). How do i get rid of the original kernel? Or is that a bad thing to do?
how were you trying to run gedit? sometimes you could experience problems while logged on as root for example, because root isnt listed to access x-apps.
try typing this at the terminal (as a normal user, not root!):
