why must i issue a "pump" command after every boot?

in order to connect to the internet, i've found that after every reboot, i must issue a "pump" command from the root prompt. i've had to do this after each reboot for as long as i've been running linux.

is there some way i can work around this?

You could create an init script to call this everytime you boot for you.

- try a "configure network" from the "knoppix" menu
- save knoppix config to floppy and use "knoppix floppyconfig" on boot
- install knoppix to HD
