why gnome's themes are so buggy??

I've been trying to use installed themes on gnome, but many parts (especially menu) often turn to black unless I move cursor over those area. I'm currently using Mandrake 9.0 but I've had same problem with RedHat 7.3 and 8.0. I've installed some with same result. Are all themes for gnome (GTK .1?) like this? Or only those Aqua themes? I'm Aqua theme fan.... I like Gnome more than KDE but often want to switch to KDE 'cause its themes work well...

Maybe you should report this as a bug of some sort to whoever made the theme. Really don't know what else to tell you, I don't usually use themes.

I heared that the themes on art.gnome.org arent working..
the themes on themes.freshmeat.net do.

maybe u should look overthere.. I had gnome2 themes (which is actually not a gnome theme but gtk themes, nautilus and metacity themes) working perfectly without any trouble
on the same OS
