The only thing you are missing is a poll. That would increase the flame attraction.

Hate is a strong word. Kinda like awesome. Sigh. Usually over used.

Only thing I hate is posers.

Many of my generation "sold out" in the Eighties; similarly, many freedom-loving and Freedom-loving GNU/Linux users from (it seems to me) about five years ago or earlier view canonical and 'buntu as selling out after Lucid Lynx. Just an observation by one who has both experienced Freedom and observed Life for some time, now. Take it as you will.

(Notice that I "liked" gor0's post)

You have asked a valid question and, regardless of the replies (yours included) that derailed the thread almost immediately, I'll attempt to answer it.

I don't hate Ubuntu but I do dislike Canonical, there is a big difference.

Ubuntu is a product from Canonical, Ubuntu itself has no choice as to what it contains because it is an inanimate "thing" that does not have the ability to make its own choices. Hating such a thing makes no sense at all and is akin to blaming the thing for what it is.

Canonical, on the other hand, is a business that is run by people who do have a choice. To me, yes this is an opinion, they make poor choices and try to force their values onto everyone else. I rejected those values shortly after the development of 12.04 started.
When Ubuntu went from being "Humanity to others" to being "thou shall tow the Canonical line" (and Unity had very little to do with it apart from it is a rip off of Gnome 3) I couldn't, in all good conscience, continue using it. I will not support something that is, within itself, a huge contradiction.

To me it looked like, and still does, an attempt to troll.

"Why do so many people hate Ubuntu?" Would be someone ignorant of what Ubuntu/Comical/Shuttleworth have done and are doing, and why many other people, rightly or wrongly, disagree with it, and asking for information with a desire to learn more about both Ubuntu and the larger Linux world. How wide-spread is the hatred? Is is justified?

"Why does everyone hate Ubuntu?" Is a statement declaring as a fact that everyone hates Ubuntu (which is obviously not true, given the large number of people that us it) and inviting people to post their reasons for hating said distribution. The thread was started with the intention of encouraging members to post anti-Ubuntu opinions. The epitome of trolling.

Hatred of Ubuntu can be added to the OP's hatred of Fedora, dislike of BSD, and "disappointment" with Debian and Gentoo.

Many people look for trolls where there aren't any. I believe the question is valid, I hear it in normal conversation so to me it is no less valid online, therefor I answered it.

Gor0's English isn't the best, if you're going to nit pick at someone for their use of the English language when it appears as though it is not their 1st language then you can do it alone cause I am not joining in. I'll say it again I answered what I believed to be a valid question, you quoted me to have a go at the OP. Leave me out of your "disappointment" of Gor0!

His English is more than adequate to bash several distributions. It is not a language problem.

The question is not the only thing to consider. The source of the question must also be considered.

Lighten up.
Look at his posting history. Ubuntu is crap, Fedora (if I remember correctly, all RMP systems) is crap, BSD and Gentoo are too difficult, etc. That is why I am not the only one who saw the OP as an attempt to troll.

If it looks like duck, swims like a duck and quacks like duck, it probably is a duck.
