Question Why can't mount NTFS partition ?

I have a hard disk which is NTFS format, I want to mount it on my Redhat,

just like this: mount -t ntfs /dev/hdb1 /win_partition/win_C,

but received a error message: fs can't support ntfs ......

Could it be say that the kernel just support fat/fat32 ??? impossible

I must make certain mistakes !

Someone can't help me ? thank you very much !!

Was the exact error message,
"mount: fs type ntfs not supported by kernel"
?

If so, then you don't have NTFS support loaded into your kernel, mate. You can either recompile it, or try to download the loadable module and
insmod ntfs

it, if you can find one that matches your kernel build.

Go to http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/ and download the linux-ntfs RPM that matches your kernel. Red Hat/Fedora is the only distribution that does not include support for mounting NTFS in the default installation. Why that is, is a mystery to me - Red Hat are probably scared of Micro$oft's lawyers :P
