I'm trying to add a mouse pointer image "png" to capture the screen on my system, but I would like to put in vlc installation directory. I know that the binary for vlc in /usr/bin/vlc; however, I want to put it in the install directory.
There is no "install directory". The binary executable is in /usr/bin/, and the configuration files are in the /home/user/.config/vlc directory. What will putting a mouse pointer .png file with vlc do for you?
I believe vlc does not capture mouse pointer when doing a desktop capture. So the only way is by putting a mouse png image on a directory somewhere and feed the path when firing up vlc to do screen recording. I guess I can put it somewhere else...

How is that going to accomplish anything? You would need to modify VLC.
You need the mouse pointer showing on screen captures? I think you might have to manually insert that by editing the image if it's not there. I've never tried to do a screenshot of VLC, so I don't know if it get the pointer or not. If I'm misunderstanding your need, sorry, your explanations are somewhat unclear to me.

I think they want worse than that. Or shall I say "more challenging" than that. I think they want the moving mouse pointer because they wish to use VLC to record the screen as they run through stuff and so they want the mouse pointer showing as part of their resultant video.
