I've had only brief lapses into other operating systems since about 2007. It's funny how things have developed over time - the free software ideology drew me in, and now the comfortable environment and constant opportunities to learn keep me hooked. For just about anything I would ever use a computer for, GNU/Linux and all software available for it are more than enough.
BeOS was better in every way to anything it was contemporary with.
After using Linux for over a Decade now, I believe that BeOS should have been multi user from the start. And the bigest issue I had was that there were few games for it. So I had to boot into Windows for playing games.
Too bad Sony didn't anything with BeOS after they bought it. And they had far more resouces then Be INC did. So they could have done some something with it.
After OS/2 and BeOS died, I deciced that no more Proprietary none MS operat systems. So I went to FOSS OSs and got hook on Linux. And Linux is still around.
If memory serves didn't someone tryed to port BeOS APIs to Linux?

PDF annotation is ..troublesome. Basically the only application that can do it well is Okular, a is fullblown KDE-lib app -- which means either you are KDE-stuck or you download ~250MB of dependencies.
Plus, there is no foobar2000.

Every 'running Linux only' debate is inherently about Windows.

That because we are covering any issues that may arise from ditching Windows, and how to work around them.

I menten that I have used OS/2 and BeOS before I switched to Linux. In fact both of them going belly up has cause me to migrate to Linux. At the time I decided never again to use proprietary OSs other then Windows(because I had to).
I haven't used windows on my personal machines in years. Have a work owned windows 7 machine but they have to support/re-image it.
Wife has 8.1 and its completely unuseable, she hates her laptop and uses her phone for most things now.
Kids have windows xp laptops.

I run openSUSE on my netbook / laptop with no problem. Mint, Ubuntu and others in earlier trials dito. Why do you expose your family to inferior systems?
They don't want to switch
though I do have my son's new pc running linux only. he asks for windows every time he sees an ad for a windows game though but he also requests an ipad every time he sees one of those apple exclusive apps. I tell him its the same thing there, we can afford a tablet for each person in the house or we can buy one ipad that everyone has to share, same with windows, we can buy a copy or windows or enough parts to build another pc.
