My history

CP/M (8080) -> MS-DOS (8086) ... extinct

Mainframe, HITACHI ... extinct

PDP-11/23 (VAX. idris) ... extinct
HP-UX (68000), Solaris (spark, 80386), Linux (80386, pent, ...)

Applesoft (6502), MacOS (68030, power) 4, 7, 8, 9 ...

Probably I am not a right one for this thread. I have used many NON-linux OS's.

I use Linux Mint for most of my computing needs. It is dual-booted with W7 which I have to use for running my Canon scanner which won't run on Linux, and when I work out how to get CUPS to put less ink on the paper when I'm printing, then the Canon printer will be used exclusively on Mint, as well.
The CPU on my laptop won't allow virtualization, and last night I installed WINE, and that too won't support the printer and scanner, so until I have to get another computer, or a new scanner, W7 will be my only option, but that is all that I use it for.

Off topic on the scanner* model number* but you have installed stuff for it?

Add: and, other scanning software?

The scanner is a Canscan 5600F. It's an old model now, but good nevertheless. I've done a bit of research to try to get it usable on Mint, but the consensus seems to be that it'll only work on Windows. Unless anyone else knows different!

Hi,

Depends on your browser but I have found most will allow you to copy the link address.

Each post has a number in the upper right hand corner that you can point too and copy link address in the drop down menu when you right click and copy that address as a link address for that number. Then you can paste the linked address into a reply post that will point to the desired post within a thread.

EDIT: Another way would be to high-light that posts number and do a copy then paste that into the reply. Please note that this will only work in the original reply creation here at LQ. You could use the link mode by pasting the number then highlight and use the linked icon but you must have the link address to paste into the url window. This is the way when you edit a posted reply in the advanced mode. You will have a post number that points to the linked address for that post.

Hope that helps.
Have fun & enjoy!
