Question who command shows dead consoles

If I do a who I see three dead sessions.

ns1:/var/log # who -iH
USER LINE LOGIN-TIME IDLE FROM
root pts/0 Jul 15 13:33 . (gwa.realconsole.com)
root pts/2 Jul 5 21:32 .
root pts/3 Jul 5 19:45 .
root pts/4 Jul 8 21:06 . (192.168.1.20)

They don't show up in the process list, and using the 'w' command only shows an entry for the real console. They mainly just annoy me. Where does the 'who' command find these, and how can I get rid of them?

Thanks,
Kurt

*bump*

My who command has also started showing some nonexistant sessions. Anyone know how I can flush these out?

who -u displays pid's that are no longer running so I can't kill 'em. Any ideas?
