I also install commercial product vuescan, because I couldn't get the scanning software that comes with my installation to work.
Most common software like firefox, libreoffice, latex comes with my current installation (debian)

Been using XFCE fo years, but I pull in Caja for the audio previews, Cherrytree for my notes Compilations, Audacious for audio playing, PDF Arranger, Filezilla, Qbittorent, LibreOffice (if it's missing on the new install), Gimp with extras, plus Chromium, Vivaldi, and Slimjet Browsers. Some BS games too, but nothing large & bloated, mainly just time killers if I'm waiting on something heavy that's busy with lots of system resources. Thunderbird for email, since nobody in our house uses Webmail.

Which Software do you install immediately after Set-up

The very first thing I usually have to manually type in Search Box, but without exception, Timeshift. After that, depends on the Distro. lol

if I was a true computer enthusiast...

with my title there I feel like going into a Dr. Suess rhyming poem... haha.

I usually install google chrome first since I am not a big Firefox fan (although I leave that installed and available just in case)
Nvidia drivers
WINE
winetricks
Lutris - for World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV
Gnome Tweaks
Brasero
Character Map
Gimp Image Editor
VLC - with libdvd packages and other needs
Facebook Messenger Client

I dabble in many things but have not immersed myself into any one thing, a curse I got when I was very young. Its like stink foot and you can't rub it off (Frank Zappa reference).

Dear Colinetsegers,

Why do you prefer an old version of Gimp? And which one? I've been using it for about 18 months but I only do the basics with it.

Thanks much,
..Monty.

Smile 1st Software to Install

For my friends and relatives - Teamviewer - free to use on Linux. I'm not sure if there's any back doors though. I'm not expert enough to know that, but I'm expert enough to help them with their computer troubles. Almost none of my friends and relatives want to use Win after the initial release of Win 10 came out, I showed them Ubuntu and they won't look back.

Anyone know if I should be worried about back doors on TV or not? Like to know your opinions.

Personally, I install...
Teamviewer - remote support friends / relatives - Free for Linux users not free for Win users
id3v2 - command line utility for wiping mp3 metadata (id3v2 -D *.mp3)
kid3 - GUI to fix the mp3 data the way I want
Audacity - Great for fixing sound levels on mp3 collection - Win version works well too
Open Shot Video Editor - Win version works well too
Video Download Helper Companion App via Firefox - Free for Linux users not free for Win users
ffmpeg - command line utility which I use for converting video file formats.

Ubuntu comes with great stuff like
Libre Office - almost as good as using MS Office (Used to prefer WPS but I don't like it as much now)
Mahjongg, Mahjongg, did I say Mahjongg? Great to play when waiting for stuff to finish.
Google Chrome - For occasional websites which don't like Firefox (Not Chromium - although have used it and it's not bad)

Hopefully my list has something useful for others to look at, I look forward to reading what other people use. Good to find something new.
