Hello,
Immediately: gedit, Thunderbird, Firefox, Gimp (if they are not already installed) ; Synaptic, Wine, pdftk ; then KiCad (for electronics CAD), Ancestris (genealogy software).
Other software as needed at that time.
I install the following (if not pre installed): Libreoffice, Chromium/Opera, Dropbox, Teamviewer, Grub Customizer, as a base system. The reason for the latter is that I run a dual boot system and this little app. is great at just tidying things up on the boot process.
Gnome Tweak followed by Gnome Shell Extensions and mostly Dash to Panel, Bing Wallpaper extensions.
I have low vision so I tend to concentrate on configuring to meet my vision needs. Software installs are done as and when the need arrives.
Oh and I'm starting to like PCloud.
