Which /mnt or /dev point is my camera card?
 
I'm running Mandrake 9.2, though this is probably a dist independent question. I have an HP 2400 printer/copier/scanner that works fine with my system(after I installed some patches). I occasionally need to use it to upload digital images from a smart card and have been going to my XP drive for this since the HP software isn't Linux compatible. If I wanted to upload directly into GIMP or other on the Linux system where is the 'drive' for this card. I have only cdrom and floppy in /mnt(actually there is also something called mymount which I have no idea about). I tried looking around /dev and clicking on a few things but that either did nothing or got the computer looking to hard. Ideas? :scratch:

How old is Mandrake 9.2? Aren't they on 10.1 or something? Or even 11.*? Hotplugging may not be that good on an older Linux kernel.

Even as recently as April, Mepis 3.3 had sorely lacking hotplug capabitilies. Very shortly after that, I upgraded to Mepis 3.3.1, and any USB device I plugged in was recognized instantly and put on my desktop.

I'd think about upgrading to Mandriva.

It's about 3 years old. I'm not big into rloading OSs on this lap top and I haven't lookd to see if the upgrades are easy and data friendly.

According to this Mandrake 9.2 review, reading from a smart card should not be a problem:

Sure enough, Mandrake 9.2 automatically created the directory /mnt/removable and mounted the flash memory. I could read from and write to this memory without any problem (no commands necessary, it was mounted rw as my username, not as root). Very nice!
