hello everyone i use kde and a lot of people give me links to programs that work only on gnome and i was just wondering which environment people like better and why
i should probably also add that if this has been posted again i apologize and the moderators can get rid of it if they choose.. they don't have to snap at me about it first or anything..
Only work on Gnome? I think you might be mistaken. Some apps are written in GTK (which is what Gnome uses), and some use QT/KDE (which is what KDE uses). Just because they're written with different libraries doesn't mean though that I can't for example open XMMS or gaim (GTK apps) in KDE.
Which one is better? They're both as slow as each other, but if I had to choose it'd be KDE.
I'm currently trying Enlightenment with a decent theme from themes.freshmeat.net while I wait for the new Fluxbox stable release, or maybe KDE with the next Mandrake release.
As, Obi Perrin, mentions, programs usually will run in either.
If you like to run programs from both then you install both KDE and Gnome. A program you add may require another package(s) that you don't have installed yet.
Then you can use the desktop you want with the programs you want.
Are you just assuming a Gnome program will not work in KDE or have you had problems installing them?
You should have searched first, this is asked all the time.
Your only going to get opinions, but the real answer is right here: Neither are better, they both have their pros and cons but only you can decide which one is better.
