Where the fsck (cumulative) logs lie?

Hi,

I recently had a problem with my filesystem and would like to know which files were affected (becasue I have several .rec files, but they don't give any clue about the file names). This filenames were shown at startup when the fsck was fixing the issue, but the scroll quickly remove the information from screen output

So I wonder if this information could be retrieved in some place on /var/log. I know that there are fsck logs at /var/log/fsck, but they seem to include only the information corresponding to the last fsck operation (thus, volatile).

Thus, anybody knows if there is any other fsck log were cumulative information about file fixes gets stored, please?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

Fermín

PD. I don't know if that matters, but my distro is Debian 4.0

I don't know of any cumulative fsck log. One place you should look for further information is in the lost+found directory on the partition which you ran fsck against. fsck places orphan files and directories in lost+found.

Dear Steve,

The problem happened in a VFAT partition, so I think there is no lost+found directory. In this case, what I find is a lot (arount 20) .rec files, which maybe are much pretty the same that what you find in a lost+found directory. The problem is that I have the files, but with "anonymous name" (FXXXXX.REC and so on), so I don't now which was each one original name.

Thank for you for answer... Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist (i.e., cumulative fsck logs)

Best regards,

Well, I've never heard of cumulative fsck logs. The general is if its critical data, grep through those lost+found (in your case .rec) files. If its not critical, give it up...
Sorry
