where is "startup"?

Hi!

I have a stupid question, 'coz I'm a newbie, but where can I manage applications to load automatically when kde (or X) starts? Is there any application available or any file (like fstab for devices)?
If you don't know what I'm talking about then: do you remember startup folder from windoze?;-)

Thx,
Bye

Ok, for KDE there is a hidden directory in each users home directory called .kde (might be in capitals - can't remember). It holds all the personal configuration settings for each user, and as such, hold the information on which programs KDE should run at startup (KDE startup, that is).

I think Gnome has a similar approach, but I'm not sure since I pretty much never use Gnome.

If you run a different window manager, and you type startx in order to get a GUI (i.e. you default to runlevel 3), then you should edit/create a file in your home directory called .xinitrc.

If you boot to a GUI login (runlevel 5), and you don't use KDE/Gnome, then you should look at a file called .xsession (I think) in your home directory.
