Where is soundcore?

Hello there,

Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find the soundcore module, which the guide that I'm following (to help get ALSA installed) says will be in the sound menu of the kernel options (where you'd expect it to be I suppose :-) ). I've looked around and I can't find it.

Thanks,

Neuronet

This always works, if its there
find / -iname '*soundcore*'

I don't have the module installed. I need to find it in menuconfig, so that I can use it when I recompile my kernel.

The problem is that when I do a make menuconfig, I go to the sound section and look for something like soundcore or ALSA or the like and there is nothing. The guide I have been following says that it should be there.

The file soundcore.o is present in my linux source, under /usr/src/linux/drivers/sound/soundcore.o so I know that it must be in the kernel options somewhere...

But where???

it is in the correct place for recompiling the kernel

why do you have to recomplile the kernel? the module is compiled.

have you recently done a
make modules_install ??

I did one when I last compiled a new kernel.

The reason I have to recompile, is because last time I compiled a new kernel, I did it without support for the soundcard because didn't know which driver to install for it.

Now, the information I have been trying to follow says that I need to select the soundcore module an compile the kernel again for it to work. Only problem is I can't find it in the sound menu.

Mwahaha!

You have to set the 'sound card support' to be compiled as a module... THEN it will use soundcore.

Forgot to read the help in the kernel menu system itself, doh!

:-)

Thanks for your assistance :-)
