Where is mount option "defaults" defined?

Hi all,

Just wondering about the contents of the fstab file. Does the system look for the definition of "defaults" elsewhere in some other file that may be editable, or is it hard-coded into the kernel for example?

Thanks, cc.

In /etc/fstab, "defaults" is just a syntactic placeholder for when you have no other options you wish to specify in field 4. It does nothing. What you get, if that is all that is in field 4, are the kernel and mount command's compiled-in defaults.
