What do you do when you shutdown?

purelific 03-19-2002 05:53 PM

I go to programs, system, and shutdown or reboot,

What distro is that?
I log out of X, su to root and do "shutdown -h now" to completely shutdown and "reboot" to reboot. Try one of those and see if you still get the error.

Are you using KDE or GNOME? I guess it doesn't matter really except you should just be able to click the 'start' button and click logout, then shutdown from there. I've never heard of a shutdown or reboot option in the system menu that I can think of. You could open a terminal window and try:

shutdown -r now
