whats the diff between ex2 and ex3?

Hi. Just wondering what the differences between ext2 and 3 are. Also is a file structure built and then mapped out in a file and saved to the disk such as when I format a harddrive with ext3?

Although i really hate people giving certain types of answer after i've tried to send them off to read info for themselves...

I'm guessing that all you really want to know is that basically:

ext3 = ext2 + a filesystem journal

but i'll let you go off to read about the benefits of a journal, if you're not already aware.
