What will happen to Linux if Linus Torvalds died?

Hi people.

As ultimately Linus has the final say what goes into the kernel - sort of like a benevolent dictator. What would happen to Linux if Microsoft hires an assassin to bump off Linus (or he died of natural causes, etc)

I know that there are too many people involved and too many companies involved for the Linux project just to stop.

Who would take command of Linux?

Sorry if this is a depressing thought, the MS assassination thing was a (sort of) joke btw ....

It is not all about the kernel.

You would see the community elect another figure head and leader regarding operations. Or the community would function as a self managed group and produce kernels in that fashion.

I suppose Cox will do the job...

Or I will take over and it will be changed from Linux to Lounix!
