what log would tell me why system is freezing up?

I have a pogoplug system and it'd be doing just fine for a while. Recently started freezing up. Since it's headless I'm not sure what's going on. Is there a log that would tell me?

That really depends on what is causing the freeze.... usually /var/log/messages

/var/log/messages stores non-debug and non-critical messages. Messages is usually considered the general system activity log. You might try /var/log/dmesg as well.

...I kind of stepped into this one... I just noticed the log question and skipped over the pogoplug device. I don't know if this is the same as a regulare Linux-based system or not...so my answer may not be helpful at all!

Sorry if the information is BAD!

OK, I'll take a look next time it happens. Due to some weird permissions issues all my logs were 0 size

happened to catch it as it was dying, but before it died. It had a bunch of errors in dmesg that seemed to imply that the system was running out of memory and shutting everything off. Also seems to have a bunch of errors that some research seems to point to the USB stick it's installed on dying. mtdblock errors. I may just move it to an external hard drive to see if that fixes the issue.
