well you already know the first two and three dots doesn't exist in that context... maybe you just saw an e.lipsis? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis, my personal favourite piece of grammar of all time...

According to my bash:
mherring@1[~]$ cd ...
bash: cd: ...: No such file or directory

Therefore: "..." means "nothing"....

In what context did you see the three dots? Perhaps after a really good party??..

Hi,

You can create the triple version:

Code:
$ ls -la
total 12
drwxr-x---  3 druuna internet 4096 Jun 25 14:53 .
drwxr-x--- 28 druuna internet 4096 Jun 25 14:53 ..
drwxr-x---  2 druuna internet 4096 Jun 25 14:53 ...
cd ...
pwd
/home/druuna/Tst/...
Did you create it yourself (after a really good party )

You should see considerably more than 3 dots after a good party.
