LQ Member Awards are a yearly thing, nothing more, nothing less.

I still think that the LQ member awards should be viewable the rest of the year, then. Would prevent the many of these kind of threads.

- File manager (GUI-based): KONQUEROR
- Text editing: KWRITE (simple) and KILE (LaTeX frontend, for complex texts)
- RSS feeds and/or mail management RSS=KNEWSTICKER, Mail: THUNDERBIRD
- Web browsing: FIREFOX
- Image viewing (Quick flipping through images): KONQUEROR DOES THE JOB
- Network monitoring: NOT USED
- System resources/processes monitoring NOT USED
- Sound/music playback AMAROK
- Terminals KONSOLE
- FTP transfers FIREFOX
- Download management (ex. Kget) KGET

As you can see, I am a K-addicted. But in slower machines, XFCE is also cool!

I guess I've got it about right then.. The first utils I wanted to get familiar with were the ones used by the majority.
My own prefs thus far:

File Manager - Filerunner, Konquerer.. although I'd much rather use the CLI as soon as I get all the commands down. Even back in the Win95 days I booted to the prompt just because the keys are much faster than a mouse.
Text Editing - Kwrite
RSS/mail - Akgregator (Thunderbird has too many issues)
Web - Firefox
Image Viewing - Settling for Kuickshow until I find something more like ACDSee
Network Monitoring - Haven't found one yet
System Monitoring - KSysGuard
Sound/Music - Amarok, but it's too sluggish and bloated.. Going to switch to XMMS
Terminals - Konsole
FTP Transfer - Haven't found one yet
Download Management - Kget although it's very buggy and crashes occasionally when I give it URL's too quickly. I actually have to make a text file of links then import them just to keep from losing the list. Currently looking for a better one with a speed limit feature.

So where can I view the LQ Member Awards? Or how long will I have to wait to see the next list?

They are viewable, you just have to search for them as the forum itself just isn't viewable year long.

Anybody who asks this would not search and would not know they exist. It doesn't help that search has been traditionally very slow.

LQ Member Awards for 2004 are here. The search took less than a minute.

"It takes too long" is a pretty poor excuse for not searching.

If you keep updated in Website Suggestions and Feedback, you would have seen that Jeremy has moved the searches to a new server, which fixed the downtimes and slowness..

Yes I know search is fast now and I actually use it, that is why I said "traditionally". Also, I am saying that those who ask don't know they exist and don't search either. Just don't be implying that I don't search and do my homework before asking something.
