what are default user and group accounts in the linux system used for?

Hi all,

sorry if this question was answered earlier , but i want to no why are default linux , unix accounts used for , or are they useless.


please help me with this question?

It's primarily for security reasons. Most of these correspond to a daemon, or a process that runs in the background. For example 'lp' is the printer daemon. It needs to have access to printer-related things, but it doesn't need access to (for example) my home directory. So, the admin sets up a user named lp which only has access to those things.

In a way, you could consider them useless because you, as a user, will never log in to any of these accounts. Their use is completely automated.
