Linux/BSD/Apache servers account for 70% of the Internet servers in the world according to the latest stats from netcraft . These figures suggest that it is the best, most secure and most stable platform. I don't think there are any disadvantages, given the alternatives. It has been suggested that BSD is more stable and more secure than Linux as the base.
Do a Google search for implementing an Apache server with RH as there are hundreds of these howto's out there.

Setup is easy, most distros only require a symlink in /var/www/htdocs to a valid folder that has an index.html in it. Also setting up multiple users and security and passworded pages is a snap. The overall security is rather robust, and the fact that a inexpensive Pentium 2 can serve pages while running linux without any graphical overhead is a plus.
