What're kernel packages?
When I installed RH73. I choose not to install LILO as the
existing LILO from other distro was good enough.
But for some reasons, the other distro was lost, and therefore
am trying to install the LILO package into new Linux.
The LILO seems to be installing it in the destination partition, but
at the end gives a cryptic message:
"No kernel packages are installed on your system. The boot
configuration will not change". I am not sure exactly what it
means. Can someone enlighten me?.
What're the requirements for LILO to be installed?

You can install LILO either on the MBR of the disk (very beginning) or on the partition you have LINUX installed (hda?). If you have a multi partition disk and chose not to install it in the MBR section, then you will need some sort of Boot Manager in the MBR to be able to selectively jump to hda? where you did install it. Or you can install it on a floppy which eliminates all this. (but is not as convenient).
Hope that helps.

What I am trying to do is to install LILO package, and not actually
install it either in MBR or root partitions. Sorry about confusing
post earlier. I have edited it and rectified the mistake.
Thx

I believe it is giving you this error, as you have just the redhat kernel installed, that is there are no kernel headers or kernel includes....its probably safe to say that you have not compiled and installed a kernel from source on your system.
Once you install a kernel from source this will get rid of that error message.
Maybe i'm way off but thats the same error message i was getting when i needed to install vmware, and then it worked after i installed a kernel from source.

Well, the kernel is not new. It's been there since day one. And
if I boot using bootfloppy, it just boots fine. No problems at all.
New development is that, I installed LILO package from rpm
repository on install CD. To my surprise it didn't create a /etc/lilo.conf
file, not sure why. So, I created one. Installed LILO in MBR.
When it boots, it panicks and says "no init found, pls give init=
parameter to boot". Not sure what that means either.
