Webmin, Mandrake 9.0 - Apache won't start.
I have stopped my apache server from webmin and when I try to start it again through webmin I get this error:
Failed to start apache : Starting httpd-perl: [ OK ] Starting httpd: Error: Apache has not been designed to serve pages while running as root. There are known race conditions that will allow any local user to read any file on the system. If you still desire to serve pages as root then add -DBIG_SECURITY_HOLE to the EXTRA_CFLAGS line in your src/Configuration file and rebuild the server. It is strongly suggested that you instead modify the User directive in your httpd.conf file to list a non-root user. [FAILED] I am not logged in as root. |
jeez, not one person viewed this thread. :)
For Future Inquiries: I went into the httpd.conf and changed the virtual host server user from root to linux username. This seems to be case when virtual servers are added. |
btw, the problem is fixed.

Mandrake / webmin
I can't seem to find any info online about downloading / using mandrake and webmin together.
Are their any resources that you can point me to? Thanks Unangst www.1hd.net |
go to www.webmin.com. download and install the RPM is easiest way.
