Weather App catering for IRISH weather?

No weather app has the icons to deal with Irish Weather conditions. This may be the only country in the world where you can go for a walk and get sunburn and saturated at the same time

They all have 'clouds & sun' icons, or 'clouds & rain' icons, but nobody can accurately forecast Irish weather without a 'clouds, sun & rain' icon. This seems like 'I haven't a clue' but sometimes that's correct here - they don't. Needless to say, these icons would be laughed at in other climates. Has anyone spotted one on Android or linux?

But out here in the West Texas Desert. Other than the occasional Tornado or Hailstorm. My Fall and Winter weather is to be envy-ed. On my Samung S7 Edge phone. AccuWeather suffices for my needs.

business_kid 10-19-2017 01:55 PM

Very neat & simple, but I didn't see the sunny, cloudy & rain icon in your display. The apps don't seem to cater for this contradictory situation, where rain clouds can pass through otherwise sunny weather or sunny breaks pass through otherwise cloudy/rainy weather. We have winter 12 months a year in Ireland :-). There are slight variations in the extremities of winter, but only the hole in the ozone layer permits tanning.

ondoho 10-19-2017 02:00 PM

like this?
http://cdn.fmi.fi/symbol-images/weather/0/21.svg
it's taken from the finnish metereological institute's forecast.
they also have one for dublin:
http://en.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/weather/ireland/dublin
there's at least one more decent nordic provider:
https://www.yr.no/place/Ireland/Leinster/Dublin/

Psst: if you decide to use FMI, i did a conky script for it!

Here's a niche/odd answer, (for my case of mll where there's only busybox, plus the inxi script which I wget'ed; or copy out the code it contains for just this!!! )
inxi -W

inxi -W

Yeah. I roll like that also.

Code:

$ inxi -xxx -w
Weather:  Conditions: 80 F (27 C) - Clear Wind: From the ESE at 8 MPH Humidity: 33%
          Pressure: 30.06 in (1018 mb) Location: Granbury TX (USA) Altitude: 215 m
          Time: October 19, 6:04 PM CDT (America/Chicago) Observation Time: October 19, 5:55 PM CDT

My weather script for conky is

Code:

#!/bin/sh
#AccuWeather (r) RSS weather tool for conky
#Requires curl and perl.
#USAGE: weather.sh <locationcode>
#
#(c) Michael Seiler 2007

METRIC=0 #Should be 0 or 1; 0 for F, 1 for C

if [ -z $1 ]; then
    echo
    echo "USAGE: weather.sh <79772>"
    echo
    exit 0;
fi

curl -s http://rss.accuweather.com/rss/liveweather_rss.asp\?metric\=${METRIC}\&locCode\=$1 | perl -ne 'if (/Currently/) {chomp;/\<title\>Currently: (.*)?\<\/title\>/; print "$1"; }'

But I like KISS when it comes to weather reporting.

Code:

Weather: ${execi 300 /home/harry/weather.sh 79772}
Looks like ondoho has you covered for your druthers, <business kid> , though.

Probably should give him a helpful post attaboy also.

It's in Slackwares repo.....http://packages.slackware.com/?r=sla..._slack14.2.txz

Guys, I'm, not looking for a weather app; There are zillions.

I'm looking for a weather app that caters for Irish weather, where you go from sunshine to clouds & showers regularly within 15-20 minutes and it's a regular occurrence to have sunshine, & clouds AND showers all together. It's not just the icon; The back end would also have to support this "It could be anything" type of weather. It's inclined to rain 320+ days a year here; The only question is when, and how much.

The typical Irish weather forecast on radio & tv is: "Bright periods with scattered showers, heavy & thundery in places." In other words, 'it might rain and it might not.' That a CYA type of forecast, and now that I'm disabled, getting caught in rain is actually a much bigger deal than before. I can't hold an umbrella or scurry into shelter like other folks.

And now you've got Storm Brian to cope with. Not my fault...honest! :)

Perfect weather app for Ireland:

(I'm based in Dublin, how did you get on with Ophelia?)

business_kid 10-20-2017 09:28 AM

ROTFL.

I love that sign. Where is it? Now people know what I mean. I wanted one with a sunny/cloudy/showers icon ideally. But it appears not to exist.

Ophelia was fine - I'm in Dublin too. A gutter pipe on the shed erected by builders like O'Reilly from Fawlty Towers came sideways, but my son had it up in 5 minutes. I was grounded, because I can't walk in strong wind. Otherwise I was fine.

I had seen it online a few times, it seems to surface with variations every time there's a weather warning.

I was horribly trapped in the house by the combination of being off work, lazy, my birthday and a nice bottle of red wine.

Irish logic is confusing to this Mexican border scooter tramp. Must be the Guinness I guess.

business_kid 10-20-2017 11:50 AM

Yeah, That's Irish all right, but I did qualify it:-/.

I can give up I think - hence the solved.

You also just accurately described weather in Florida, USA.
